Felice boun anno...

OnlineMahzen

Bugün şaraplarla ilgili bir şeyler ararken OnlineMahzen'in sitesine gitmiş oldum.

November has arrived, it's Novello time,

2 weeks ago, with my some friends, after seeing the Caravaggio and Bacon at Galeria Borghese, I was a little hungry , so was Enrico. With his wife we all went to a 'pizza al taglio'(a pizza place where you can buy sliced pizza)place. The place was very important for Enrico, because he said that best sliced pizza was there. And they have their own recipe for preparing the pizza bread (unfortunatly I don't remember the name, but know where it is:))
Anyway, after that we ended up a osticeria and had something to eat and 'vino novello', then I met learnt what Vino Novello is. Literitually it means 'new wine'. However it is not just a new wine. As I learnt, the way of producing this wine is slightly different from the traditional ones.
First this wine is really young wine. On average it is only 2 months old wine. It can be up to a year old, but in general producers wait 2 months and then they bottle it.
As I learnt some producers use some stainless steel container, not the wood ones. And they don't keep the grape shell long in it. So it can be also served cool. I also heard that carbonization process is also different. However I don't know it in detail.

It's tastes is fruity, and generelly its alcohol volume is less, just 11% like some prosecco's. It can be made with different grapes. I am looking for a Nero d'Avola one, but unfortunately couldn't find one yet.
Its season is November, however th strange thing for me was, its selling date is announced by the goverment and it is always in November but the precise date is announced by law.
In summary I liked its fruty taste. But the first one was far better then the one I bought later on. The first one was like a traditional wine. But with the second one, you could feel how young and light it was. But goes well with aperitivo.
By the way, the one bought was a mix of two grapes. I try not to buy the mixed ones but I didn't see it when buying it.

My summer dream, Prosecco, Italy's sparkling wine

It has been long time that I was thinking to write about 'Prosecco(or Spumante)'. Prosecco is sparkling wine, made with white grape, which is especially from Veneto region of Italy.
While writing this blog I learnt that Prosecco is also the name of the grape, which they use use to make this lovely drink.
As you may remember, I have moved to Italy in June09. And here summer is really hot. I normally prefer red wine, but when the weather is over 35 you can't even think about it. You want to drink something cold and with gas if possible. If you don't like coke, like me, or beer is not your first choice, there is a great option for you (apart from natural sparkling water of course), which is called Prosecco.
I remember my first night at Serena's place. She offered me prosecco and I looked her eyes blankly, asking what is it? Then she poured a glass of prosecco for me even without waiting my response. When I had the first sip, I said, my goodness this is something what I am looking for, this is great. Freshing, light, fruity, sparkling and cold :)
And all summer I had tried many different prosecco of course. These days the weather is getting cold and I am back to red wine. But I will write about them over next coming weeks.
And the one on the left top is a really tasty, dry and very easy to drink.

Prosecco is mainly from Conegliano and Valdobbiadene parts of Veneto region. So you may see that many names have these names in their names.

Sergio is one of my my favorite. However my admiration is because of the taste, not just the name of it:) I can hear that you are saying 'what'. Let me explain; 'Sergio' is very famous male name here, so one of my friend says that, Italian girls are crazy about this wine, and they are especially choosing this one just beacuse of its name, which is very funny.
But apart from this funny story, its taste is really good, and it is not as light as the others.
And do not forget that, when you open prosecco bottle, you should drink it in one or two days. After two days ou can't feel the bubbles, so the rest is not prosecco and not just white wine. So, dont forget this :)

This one is sweet prosecco, yes it is sweet, which is not my favorite. When I bought this bottle I didn't know that 'dolce' in Italian, means 'sweet'. However I learnt very quickly when I tried it first. They serve this one especially with deserts, cookies or with the first dish (antipasti) which is most generally 'pasta' in Italy. I am no good with sweet drinks that why I didn't like it so much, but I am sure it is much better then many other sweet drinks.

Nero d'avola from Sicily

I was in Sicily for the last weekend, and one of the reason that I went to Sicily was of course wine, the other was fish :)
First of all I want to say that, they really o very good wine. But my favorite was Nero d'avola.
The taste o fNero d'avola is a little friuty, sweety and smells like peach, easy to drink, not so strong. It is just my type of wine. Yesterday I bought a bottle of "Terre di Ginestra Nero d'avola" and will try this weekend.

Sicily is an island on the south part of Italy. It's very close to the continent Africa. Between Tunisa and Sicily there are ferries, and they said that it takes only 5 hours to go to Tunisia by ferry, means that they are really close.

Anyway, when you go to Sicily you see that every single part of the land is covered by wineyards. The island is very windy, and the weather is sunny most of the year, during the winter they say it is mild, not so cold. All these make the island very good place for wine grape.
I have taken the picture on the top left, it is the train station of Mozia, Sicily. You see the endless wineyard.
My Sicily trip was very exiting, this time I did the west part, next time will do the east part, and will go to Mt. Etna.

Casale Del Giglio - Petit Verdot - Lazio

This was my third wine I bought in Rome. I saw this at our commissary shop, while I was trying to read the backside I saw a colleague, and he strongly recommended this one, and I took it.
It is really a good one, very close to my taste, not exactly but it was good. Taste is similar to Merlot. Petit Verdot type grape's origin is South West France, if you want to read more click here...

It is from Lazio region, the producer is very famous with their good quality wines. Last week I bought same brand's white wine as a present to my Italian friend and she said Casale Del Giglio s one of the best wine producer. I'm happy to hear this :)

Frescobaldi - Remole / Toscana

Not (27/11/09): Sarabin uzumleri 85% Sangiovese ve 15% Cabernet Sauvignon imis.

Terrale - Nero D'avola Sangiovese

While I was chatting with one of my Italian colleague, I told him that I love drinking wine and I am planning to keep a blog about wine. Then he said that, there were 21 regions in Italy and I should have chosen wines depending on its region. I should have tried them region by region. That is a good point to start.

My first region will be Lazio, which Rome belongs to.

Unfortunately before this conversation I have already had two bottles of wine experience. This is the first bottle of wine. This is from Sicilia region. And I really liked it. Buying this wine was not actually my decision. While we were shopping at a supermarket, my landlady suggested this one. This is a sour, soft and dry lovely wine. I only paid €2.40 for this bottle.
